Book details

Joffre Swait, also known as Joffre the Giant, lives in Moscow with his wife and five children. He is the author of Well Met: Poems of Companionship and co-author of Christian Pipe-Smoking: an Introduction to Holy Incense. He has owned a used bookstore, served as a missionary abroad, and played rugby all over the Americas. Joffre has a deep love for the poetry of the West, and is more ambivalent about the Norman invasion than Tolkien was. He has taught language and letters for twenty years, and is currently a rugby coach. Teaching students how to enjoy good things is one of his chief pleasures.

This cheerful collection of rumbling poetry is the perfect introduction to the good life -- the life each Christian should be living.

There is wine, there are riddles, there is war with sin, there are jokes...all uttered in appreciation of this world that God made out of his own words. We all can imitate him: Poetry is a way of life.

Hurrah for the Pumpkin Pie!

This poetry is requested and quoted by toddlers over pie.

good poems for one who hasn't gotten poetry

I love reading, literature, and all of that stuff. I've always struggled with poetry but have wanted to... stop struggling with poetry. This collection is accessible and shows the beauty and wit of language. would recommend. Also, I bought a new pipe after buying this book...

Purchased as a Father’s Day Gift

I purchased this for my father, who is a bit of a wordsmith himself. He really enjoyed it.

Splendid.

I got the poems after listening to book review. I am a poet and Joffre’s context brought them to life. In particular his “belly button gazing” directed at today’s poets got me thinking about how I can change my poems to more of at outward landscape. Excellent little treasure…of course the cover design was smokin’. I like a good draw when I have the patience to pack the bowl.
