My Dear Hemlock

I bought this book mainly to get an idea of how a woman would tell the story of female temptation. I hoped for a behind-the-curtain look at my own wife’s struggles and how my daughter (age 2) might face similar challenges in the future.

My Dear Hemlock did not disappoint. Tilly Dillehay did an amazing job capturing the feel and style of C.S. Lewis's The Screwtape Letters. The read was as insightful as I’d hoped and wildly engaging. I’ll be ordering more copies as gifts this Christmas.

I think every woman (married or unmarried) should read this book. SO insightful, Tilly does such a good job at pinpointing a lot of the struggles women struggle with.

This book offers a brilliant, modern take on 'The Screwtape Letters,' tailored specifically for women. Beautifully written and deeply thought-provoking, it compelled me to examine my own life. The author skillfully blends relatable scenarios with profound truths, creating a narrative that encourages both self-reflection and repentance. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was such a unique and powerful perspective on the struggles in a Christian woman's life.

I was so blessed by this book. It was such a solid read that I bought a copy for each woman in my community group. I have thought back on it several times and have found it helpful to be more conscious of the spiritual battle that is always warring within us. My Dear Hemlock also reminds and encourages that those of us who are in Christ are being strengthened and sanctified; He will never let us out of His grasp.

Since my wife and I was familiar with Screwtape letters by C.S. Lewis and found out that this was a spin off of that book, I decided to buy for my wife. At the outset she was already excited about the creativity of making a Screwtape letters type of book for women. Tilly Dillehay did not disappoint in making this book. I never saw my wife read a book so quickly, she just couldn't put it down. It was so good as a husband hearing about the things she was learning from the book. From a husband to another husband who may be thinking about buying this book for your wife, you will not regret your decision.

Such a great book. A must read for all Christian women!

Absolutely loved this book! I wish I had ordered more, I’d gift them to all my Christian, female friends! Would recommend to anyone honestly, SUCH a good read! I love how Tilly reminds us of so many ways we’re subtly lured towards sin (and how we so often justify it to ourselves), but she also highlights the strong, glorious potential God put in us. You won’t get stuck feeling hopeless or irredeemable, as you’ll be reminded that God made us women with a wonderful purpose, and He’s there every step of the way, sanctifying us and using us for His great plan, despite the best efforts of the enemy!

My wife loves it, and has shared snippets from it with me that she has especially enjoyed.

Tilly Dillehay has written a masterpiece every bit as worthwhile as Screwtape Letters. Focusing on the specific challenges facing women and how we are attacked differently, the book lays bare the excuses we make for the sins we commit.

Both delightfully witty and wonderfully convicting, true to C.S. Lewis form! An excellent gift book for female friends & relations with its classic & elegant look.

Great read!

I absolutely love Lewis’ Screwtape letters, so it was a hard sell to believe someone could fill those shoes. Tilly absolutely lives up to the hype though and makes your squirm from the moment you open the book.

A wonderfully convicting book that lived up to high expectations! I was skeptical that the book would be as good as it was- and it far exceeded my hopes! I laughed, I cried, I cringed with conviction and prayerfully considered my own sinful tendencies with each chapter. A wonderful work that is much needed in the lives of Christian women today. Highly recommend!

I know it’s technically a “ladies” book, but the preview gave me no choice but to buy it. Other than the female tendency to gossip, I can’t say I ever been explicitly taught how women struggle and sin. As a husband and father of a little girl, I believe this book has graciously given me an understanding of how to love the women in my life and understand how satan may be peeking into their loving hearts. It’s also just a fun read from such a witty perspective.
