“The ‘manosphere’ online is filled with a certain kind of red-pilled bitterness which, when it is coupled with evolutionary and materialistic assumptions, produces an odd mix of appalling selfishness and cynicism (and reductionism with regard to sex) coupled with common grace insights that you would never hear from an evangelical beta-preacher.” ~ from the book

Listen on Canon+

Douglas Wilson writes to a young man about how he should pursue a woman. Feminism has us catechized about what's attractive ("Men should be sensitive"), and evangelical pastors have only reinforced those lies with platitudes on servant-leadership (heavy on the servant, light on the leadership). When they find out that being a doormat doesn’t attract anyone, young men often rebound into the secular manosphere and its cocktail of selfishness and red-pilled bitterness. Douglas Wilson offers his own commonsense advice, sharp-edged and thoroughly biblical—not just on how to be the kind of man who attracts the right woman, but how to be the kind of man who keeps her.

Customers praised this Scripture-grounded guide for young men on relationships and masculinity. Many found the 'witty format and clever advice' invaluable for dating and marriage preparation. Shoppers appreciated its counter-cultural Biblical perspective and engaging uncle-to-nephew style. Some noted occasional off-topic content.

Good introduction to the subject

A very easy and quick-to-read book that seems directed at those who may find reading intimidating. It covers the creation and design of a man and a woman that you will not see the world convey. It is undoubtedly Biblical and rates as truths that can be found in the Word of God. Today it is extremely important to know how God designs us for a fulfilling life, and this book primes the pump. A good read for any single young or older and parents with children. The world has blinded us, and this book helps in taking those presuppositions away.

Very helpful insights.

I've worked through this book with my grandson. We meet most days for coffee and book discussion. He's grown more confident about his fitness as a husband in the future. He requested another go through. Great intro to dating and or courtship.

Pastor Wilson's witty format and clever advice are thoroughly grounded in Scripture and the principles of masculinity God has put forth. I have found them immensely helpful in my own personal life, and am thoroughly grateful for this guide to young men.

Good, if not always on topic

Strangely enough, I found a few of the essays from the Dear Darla series to be more interesting and helpful. But there were definitely some good nuggets in the Dawson series as well. Wilson has an engaging style for sure.

Great gift for aspiring single men

I listen to the series and loves it.
Then I bought 3 copies, kept one and gave three away. A 17 year old recipient started a youth study with the book with other single men and are working through it together. There have been no shallow conversations. The book does not allow it.

Get the book: read the kind of book the kind of man you want to be would want to read

First, this is hands down one of my favorite book titles ever--but even better, it delivers with exactly the kind of content you would want to get from a book with this title. As a 51-year-old man with five kids, mostly grown now, and a wonderful wife of 26 years, I think I'm a little older than the demographic this book is written for, but I was interested because of my own lack of guidance as a young man. I didn't have the kind of father who talked to me about any important issues in life unless they were of direct interest to him. No judgment or resentment intended here: it's just a fact. I can only remember a handful of moments in my life where I thought, "Oh, dad's trying to teach me something," and not one of those times was about sex, dating, or relationships. Douglas Wilson's book, structured as a series of letters written to a fictional nephew, contained the kind of advice and encouragement that I would have liked to hear from my dad--advice that would have helped me navigate relationships. It would have helped me be a better husband, and it definitely would have helped me parent my boys. It still will help. The infinite grace of our loving savior is fully sufficient to atone for my sins, and I consider this book a gift that God may use to mitigate some of the damage I caused through my ignorance and neglect. At the very least, it will help me as I move forward. I first listened to this book through my Canon Plus subscription (another quality resource I highly recommend), and I bought a copy to give my unmarried son. I hope it's as instructive and encouraging to him as it was to me. I'm so thankful for all of the high-quality material that Canon Press is producing to help a Christian like me be a better Christian, and this book is no exception.

True hard words

Mr. Wilson has given us some good and true words to counteract the muddleheaded thinking being propagated these days, both blatantly and subtly. He doesn't mince words, which I find refreshing, getting to the heart of the problem: we have forgotten how to be men and women by God's design. I especially appreciated his advice on conversation... true conversing allows you to get to know the person, whereas gushing ones heart just makes a big mess all over the place.
Four stars, as I felt the writing wasn't as polished/cleaned up as I've come to expect from Doug Wilson... maybe he was in a hurry to help his nephew, and rushed the process!

Excellent counter-culture guide

Got this for our 20 y.o. son and then after having it sent to him directly (he’s in the Army), listened to the audio version on Canon+! We thoroughly enjoyed it and felt it has the potential of being truly life-changing. The way it’s written (from an uncle to nephew) is very engaging and winsome. It’s “real” enough to be enjoyable and since it’s written from an “uncle’s” perspective, doesn’t have to be perfectly “GenZ” to be accepted by GenZ. ;) We think our son will benefit greatly from it and he has committed to read it. Not much out there with this kind of Biblical perspective and wisdom, so we are happy for our son to have this book for such a pivotal time in his life.

Review of Get the Girl

Fantastic read! Really covers a wide variety of topics a lot of people shy away from in this day and age. Speaks truth in love and is very helpful for men in search of a good wife, I’d even recommend young women to read it!
